Just when I am starting research on why it is that almost no women bloggers appear in the blogrolls of the big political blogs, I learn that one of the biggest female politics bloggers out there, Ana Marie Cox, or Wonkette, is turning her blog over to two men to go off and write a book.
Excuse me, but doesn’t this kind of defeat the purpose?
With her signature raunchy style, Cox commented on her exit: “How do I feel about replacements, you ask? I’m thrilled; until now the idea of Wonkette being taken over by two men only existed in my letters to Penthouse Forum.” What a character. She’s like the blogosphere’s equivalent of a porn star. But, no more. I’m not exactly crying about that. I just find it ironic that the one woman who appeared to be making money blogging is moving on to a (not-so-promising) career as a novelist.
But at least it proves the old adage that it takes two men to do the job of one woman.
As with my other blog lists, I am going to be researching and compiling a list of Worthy Blogs by Women, to be added as a separate page to this blog. Be sure to chime in with suggestions.
Molly Ivins is not a blogger, per se, but a columnist based in Texas whom I have come to admire greatly over the years for both her humor and honesty. She writes for the Fort Worth Star Telegram but is often featured in The Progressive and The Texas Observer. Her work can be accessed at http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/columnists/molly_ivins/ I highly recommend her!
Yes, thanks, David. Molly Ivins is in a league all her own as a writer and political analyst. We will find a place for her, perhaps on another page for worthy columnists.
