Cheney Takes A Shot At Stumping

Dick Cheney stumps for Clay Shaw
Vice President Dick Cheney has been keeping a low profile lately, something anyone who hunts with him would henceforth be advised to do. However, he has been flushed from the cover of the Washington Beltway this week by his duties as chief cheerleader for the Bush Administration. Mr. Cheney was in Florida on Monday, stumping for his old pal, U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw, who faces a difficult reelection bid. According to the National Journal, which offers a ranking of the most vulnerable House seats, Shaw is “facing his toughest Democratic foe yet in a district that is probably hyper-sensitive to the growing debacle that is the Medicare Rx plan. Shaw, 66, has served in the House of Representatives since 1981 and has been under the gun for his financial dealings with indicted Rep. Tom DeLay. (The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee selflessly shares “just how tangled up in the GOP Culture of Corruption is Clay Shaw.) Nonetheless, Cheney praised the congressman for doing a “superb job and added that “it’s important that we elect people like Clay because we live in a time of consequence.

The Vice President, artful dodger of consequence that he is, apparently made his remarks without a trace of irony. He also managed to keep a straight face in saying that the U.S. had “a clear plan for victory in Iraq, the economy was “healthy and vigorous, and, “with George W. Bush as our leader, the United States is moving forward with confidence. Those faithful who paid up to $1,000 to rub elbows with the VP were no doubt delighted to hear how smashingly things are going in the grand old republic, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. One can only wonder when the levees of their self-delusion and self-importance will be breached.

  1. Dude, for the people who forked over $1000 to rub elbows with the VP, things are going smashingly. Things only stink for the other 90% of us.

Bush & Co are not incompetent. They have done a great job. They have presided over the largest upward transfer of wealth in history. Bush described his constituency as the “Haves” and “Have-mores.” He has done a great job for them. It’s just the other boobs who voted against their class interests because he came out against gay marriage that have been taken to the cleaners.

So it’s important to realize they are not deluding themselves. Haliburton has made a killing. Oil companies have been making record profits. Bush & Cheney are oilmen….connect the dots.

Here’s my wild conspiracy theory: the point of Iraq was not to access their oil; it was to take their oil OFF the market, creating scarcity & driving up the price. Who’s benefited from the war? Oil companies. What industry has the Bush family been involved in for 2 (3?) generations? Oil.

Connect the dots. I can’t prove this, and I’m not sure I’m 100% serious, but dang me if it doesn’t all fit. And why was Cheney so fiercely secretive about his energy planning group? Don’t have an answer, but what the heck did they talk about? I sure wonder.

  2. There is something so Dick Nixon about this picture. Freaky. All he needs is the two finger victory salute and they’d be almost identical.
