Poll Provides No Deliverance

Zogby International just released the results of a poll that gathered data on the propensity of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to make like Bobby Trippe—the character played by Ned Beatty in the movie, Deliverance—and give it up for the promise of future security. The results are rather disturbing:

Wondering just how much of their basic civil liberties the fine citizens of this nation would consider giving up, I decided to take a poll of my own:

Clearly, we are up the river without either a paddle or a whit of common sense. What we sorely need is deliverance—not so much from the threat of terrorism as from our own indifference and ignorance.

Now, squeal like a pig, America. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    While all the numbers are truly disturbing (and I found myself ask, well, exactly who would do the cavity search, because, you know, that could change the way I answer) it should be noted that the supportes of the party in power are much more inclined the fascism than the others. What I can’t figure out is why more of them think it is Ok to monitor your phone than your mail? But, I can’t figure out how they can look at themselves in the mirror in the morning either..
