• BURNT TOAST to the Secret Service for yet again making a mountain out of a molehill and bullying those who express opposition to President Bush and the policies of his corrupt administration. In this case, the supposed threat was “a 14-year-old girl with a heart on her backpack and braces on her teeth, a freckle-nosed adolescent who is passionate about liberal politics and cute movie stars. Her name is Julia Wilson, and she learned a vivid civics lesson Wednesday when two Secret Service agents pulled her out of biology class at McClatchy High School [in Sacramento] to ask about comments and images she posted on MySpace.â€? more…

• BURNT TOAST to the Environmental Protection Agency for its recent “decision to reject the recommendations of experts inside and outside the government who had urged a significant tightening of federal standards regulating the amount of soot in the air.â€? A subsequent editorial in the New York Times decried the EPA’s decision, noting that “the Bush administration loves to talk about the virtues of ‘sound science,’ by which it usually means science that buttresses its own political agenda. But when some truly independent science comes along to threaten that agenda, the administration often ignores or minimizes it.â€? more…

• BURNT TOAST to Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), who “pleaded guilty to corruption charges Friday but said he would not immediately resignâ€? his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Apparently, the only thing smaller than the man’s name is his good sense and integrity. He says yea to accepting bribes from Jack Abramoff but nay to stepping down from the elected office that he has shamed. What a horse’s patoot! more…

• BURNT TOAST to British Airways for their rigid political correctness and lack of decency in “banning a Christian employee [in London] from wearing a cross around her neck. Heathrow check-in worker Nadia Eweida claims she was effectively ‘forced’ to take unpaid leave after refusing to remove or conceal the symbol.â€? Not surprisingly, Eweida is rather cross about the whole matter. more…
