Steve Stycos Endorses Andre Araujo for School Committee

Back at the local level, we have another endorsement for Andre Araujo for School Committee:

Cranston Ward One School Committeeman Steve Stycos has endorsed Andre Araujo for the Ward Two school committee seat.

“Araujo shares my desire to preserve small neighborhood elementary schools, like Ward Two’s Waterman, said Stycos who represented part of the current Ward Two prior to redistricting in 2004. “Araujo watched as a majority of the current school committee ignored parents’ pleas and failed to carefully question the closing of his daughter’s school, Horton Elementary, Stycos continued, “so he knows the committee needs to head in a different direction. In 2005, school committee member Michael Traficante warned the Cranston City Council that lack of school funding might force the closure of four elementary schools, including Horton and Waterman.
Stycos also said Araujo shares his concern about large class sizes at Cranston High Schools East and West. The two schools currently have 132 classes with 30 or more children.

“Araujo is intelligent, energetic and has a child in Cranston schools, Stycos added, “He will listen to parent concerns, ask tough questions and, as a parent himself, make decisions based upon what is good for our children.

Araujo works as a computer technician for the US Navy and is a member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard. He lives on Stevens Road with his wife and daughter and attends the Church of the Ascension.. This is his first run for public office. Stycos has served three terms on the school committee.

And for those who may have missed it, here is a link to my letter on Andre’s qualifications, which appeared in both the Projo and in The Cranston Herald.
