Something Beautiful

The sun is sticking around a little longer, but it’s still the grey end of winter, with some arctic cold to remind us what’s outside the boundaries of our blue planet. It always feels like some Lovecraft howl from the void of space, when it gets so clear and dry and still.

It’s a time to look for things that warm the soul. If you want to see something beautiful, travel on over to the Gaian Tarot Artist’s Journal and check out Joanna Powell Colbert’s beautiful interpretation of the Seven of Fire (Wands) card. The image is a blacksmith hammering a piece of molten iron on her anvil, the message is ‘strike while the iron is hot.’ You can find other powerful images and unexpected interpretations of the Tarot archetypes in the site’s archives. Best of all, the artist uses real people as models, and does justice to their individuality. They look like people you might run into at Seven Arrows Herb Farm, or a Wholebellies concert. Ms. Colbert is creating a fine, stereotype-smashing, bigotry-breaking, radical Tarot deck, with such subtlety and lovely execution that it will bring Spring on early.
