Cranston Police Seek to Boot McGrath

During the mayoral campaigns last fall, I heard people say that Fung had the unspoken endorsement of the police because, among other things, he promised to ensure that their chief would be fired. Now it appears that the police union will be taking care of business for themselves with a no-confidence vote. From the Providence Journal:

CRANSTON — Four years after taking the reins as the police chief, Stephen McGrath is facing a no-confidence vote from his department’s rank and file.

Officers authorized the vote on Wednesday by 75 to 2, scheduling it for Monday afternoon.

Stephen J. Antonucci, president of Local 301 of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, said the vote will provide insight into what officers think of the department’s top leader and his leadership style.

“Clearly, anybody that’s a leader would want to know that they’re supported by the men and women who work for them,” he said.
