Panic in the Blogosphere

Associated Press is pressing lawsuits. Newspapers closing down (what will we blog about without them?), Rupert Murdoch trying to get readers to pay for access…

Tough times, but we can handle it. Just pour a strong cup of—arrhgh!!!

Caffeine addicts face higher prices for their daily fix as the wholesale cost of both coffee and sugar rise sharply because of poor crops and robust demand.

“We are in a dangerous situation,” Andrea Illy, chief executive of Italy’s leading coffee company, told the Financial Times, warning that prices could “explode” due to supply shortages.

I don’t care, no matter how bad things get–I’m not drinking instant.

  1. Do you ever see how much Illy charges for coffee?Highway robbery.
A hint-try a brand called French Market if you can find it-Shaw’s used to carry it,but only East Side marketplace does now that I know of.It’s mixed with chicory, which allows it to be really strong without the bitterness.
It looks like it costs a lot,but here’s the catch-they sell you a whole pound, not 11 or 12 ounces, like some equal sized cans do.It pays to check the labels.
There used to be a similar brand called Luzianne, but it isn’t around any more.

  2. Illy is a coffe brand popular inEurope. In the Netherlands virtually every (actual)coffe shop serves this brand.
I saw it a few times here and you’d have thought they made it out of ground gold nuggets. It’s okay, but not THAT ok,that you need an equity loan to buy it.
    HYPERBOLE ALERT!!

  3. I fuel my outrage on Whole Foods Mocha Java. It’s kind of chocolate without the calories.
New Harvest Coffee Roasters is local/global. Ain’t grown here, but roasted in Pawtucket. Very good. I buy a pound at church because it is a fundraiser for the lady’s guild. They are not as expensive as Whole Foods. They can be found here
