This is amazing — by a 7-vote margin out of 22,000 votes, the New York City Transit Workers have rejected the contract negotiated for them by their leader, Roger Toussaint. This is reportedly a very unexpected turn of events, due to a dissident group within the transit workers union.
This contract was regarded by the media, both left and mainstream, as a huge success for organized labor. One article described Toussaint as having “bested” the city in the contentious days of the strike and in the negotiations afterward. So where, pray tell, do we go from here?
