Senator Reed’s wife gave birth today, according to Channel 10:
Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed’s wife, Julia, gave birth Friday afternoon to a baby girl in Alexandria, Va.
Emily Hart Reed weighed in at seven pounds, eight ounces. She is the couple’s first child.
“Mother and daughter are doing well and we feel truly blessed,” Reed said in a statement issued by his Senate office.
Reed, 57, and his wife, 41, were married in April 2005 at a chapel on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
“The Senator and Mrs. Reed are overjoyed,” said Reed spokesman Chip Unruh. “Everyone is doing very well. Senator and Mrs. Reed are grateful for everyone’s warm wishes, and they appreciate the courtesy and privacy given to them at this special time.”
