Forty years ago America put a man on the moon. We could have said it was too expensive. We could have said we didn’t have enough rocket scientists, or rockets, or astronauts. We could have said it was a Russian idea, and the Russians were Communists, so let them have the moon. We could have worried that illegal aliens would bask in the glow of our national prestige. We could have worried that space aliens would follow us home. We could have predicted that the Rapture would come before we ever got to the moon.
July 20, 1969. Was this our finest hour? Will we do great things again?
Yes we will.
The challenges we are facing now–repairing our economy, getting our people back to work, providing basic, affordable health care to all Americans– these are not beyond us.
We put a man on the moon. We can fix our problems on earth.
Next time you hear the lie that we are a small, scared nation, circling the wagons and rationing out the necessities of life, remember–
We put a man on the moon. Yes we did, Yes we can.
Excellent! There is nothing that cannot be accomplished with determination and cooperation. The difficulty seems to be difficulty freeing the energy and inventiveness America as a nation has historically shown when confronted by challenges. I suspect we will figure it out.
