A Lynching in Kentucky

Huffington Post reports that census takers in Kentucky want to work in teams after the murder of Bill Sparkman.

Sparkman, a teacher and single father who was working a second job on the census to support his family, was found hanged with the word ‘fed’ scrawled on his chest.

Crime happens, but reckless hate speech is gasoline on the fire. Even a drug-runner might just need that extra push to cross the line to murder. Even a drug-runner might consider himself the ‘real American.’

In hard times like these, in any times actually, a government job like the census can provide first employment or an extra paycheck for people who need it. Who would have thought that a man would be murdered, because he is working for the government, taking a fair count so that our people can be represented?
