Unregulated Loaded Gun

Ignorance can be remedied, but there’s no cure for stupidity. This is really scary…

A freshman Arizona state Senator may be in need of some gun safety lessons.

Richard Ruelas, a reporter for The Arizona Republic, found himself staring down the barrel of Republican state Sen. Lori Klein’s raspberry-pink firearm during a recent interview at the Capitol.

“Oh, it’s so cute,” Klein said of the .380 Ruger that she carries in purse at all times.

While the loaded pistol had no safety and the laser pointer was centered on the reporter’s chest, Klein explained that there was no need to worry.

“I just didn’t have my hand on the trigger,” she said.

I wonder if the Arizona NRA will condemn Sen.Klein for this stupid and arrogant stunt. Does this count as assault? I think it’s actionable.

‘The gun just went off’ has been said many times, but juries tend to be unsympathetic. James Langevin could tell this fool a thing or two about the dangers of getting careless with guns.

  1. There is no excuse for being careless with firearms. Why did she display it in the Statehouse?I’ve carried a concealed handgun all my adult life since I got out of the military and never let anyone see it except in necessary circumstances.
Of course,I expect the gun haters to jump on this and extrapolate this person’s stupid behavior to everyone who owns a firearm.
Interestingly,a local pro-firearms site”The Truth About Guns”takes this state senator to task over the incident.
Another note:Negligent discharges can happen-if the firearm is pointed in a safe direction with a sufficient backstop,it will minimize the danger.
If you want to see deadly behavior, just drive down I95 anytime.
    I don’t suggest banning cars.
Many police officers are killed and injured by negligent discharges, because I suspect that in some cases familiarity breeds contempt-as I said previously,I was nearly killed by a piece of equipment I had operated hundreds of times because my brain wasn’t in gear,so to speak.
If one assumes a firearm is always loaded until proven otherwise, there’d be fewer accidents.
While on the subject, why make guns in pastel colors?
Doesn’t anyone think that could attract children?Guns are tools or recreational items, but they don’t need to look “pretty”.
Kinda like putting polka dots on a hypodermic syringe.
You’d be surprised how many people who have had to be armed professionally agree with me.
In my former agency,we had to re-qualify four times a year on handguns and twice a year on shotguns and submachineguns(if you were assigned one)in order to be on the street doing your job.
The NRA promotes gun safety all the time. You can’t dispute that. They also provide high quality competence training.
I can show you two nearlty identical semiautos that have a very significant difference-one fires with the magazine removed;the other doesn’t.You need to know these things if you buy a firearm.

  2. I’m not a prohibitionist on guns, I think people who own guns have a responsibility to keep them safe and not shoot anyone unless it’s in self defense. It’s scary to think of this woman making gun policy.

    1. Yeah-she needs a little remedial training.
OTOH I also am very uneasy at some Uppert west Side liberal from NYC or some San Francisco moonbat making gun policy.
There’s good gun laws and bad gun laws.
Ignorance of the facts is the worst starting point for any law.

  3. I think there’s an unspoken desire to have stashed weapons to use against the government– from both left and right extremists- that stands in the way of common sense and accountability.
If you want the power to kill another person you have to take responsibility or you are an outlaw. Will the NRA disown Sen. Klein and the pink gun manufacturers? She’s already saying that the reporter sat himself down in front of where she was innocently pointing her gun. I guess pointing guns is just a mannerism she has.

    1. I think if someone wants weapons to protect themselves from a government gone bad/acting illegally they have a perfect right to own them if they aren’t mentally ill,a convicted felon,an illegal alien,or any of the other prohibited categories.
I do not believe in gun registration any more than I believe in book registration.
The NRA doesn’t have to “disown” or repudiate anyone. She is responsible for her own actions and the consequences.
Gun registration does nothing to solve crimes.Guns found at crime scenes or in criminal hands can be traced to the last purchaser, who has to explain things.take my word ofr it-this works very well.
As long as I make a legal firearms purchase no one has a right to know what I own.
Some states have registration-such peaceful havens as NY,DC,Illinois,California, etc.
RI doesn’t and we are very low on the list of places with gun crimes-we may actually be last.At least that’s one “last”I don’t mind. And RI doesn’t intrude into peoples’ privacy unduly in this regard.
I think the pink guns are bad idea, but it’s a free country.
Ruger manufactured the handgun the senator mishandled.
This is beginning to sound opportunistic.
People can but welding sets ,propane grills, and numerous hazardous chemicals at any big box home goods store.
No one knows if they’re ignorant or nuts.Social engineering doesn’t work-we have gun laws that do exist to prevent the wrong people from getting access to them.
We also have laws against public urination-how’s that working out?
Just trying to keep it light-been having to support my wife dealing with family problems surrounding her terminally ill father, who I have always liked and hate to see in the condition he is in.It seems like people become overnight medical experts and take vacations from reality under certain kinds of stress.
