Today at 5:30pm Dr.Bernard Lafayette, a veteran of the nonviolent civil rights marches and colleague of Dr.Martin Luther King, will be the guest speaker in a program at AS220. Details are here.
Dr. Lafayette was a Freedom Rider, an organizer of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and a survivor of beatings and other violence at the hands of opponents of equal rights. He has dedicated his life to justice, and part of his career was spent as Distinguished Scholar in Residence at University of Rhode Island. He now holds the post of Senior Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Emory University, but keeps his connection with our state, where he has been a leader in nonviolence studies and practice.
